Ladies Challenge Cup

Congratulations and well done to Challenge Cup team who defeated Castlecomer on Wednesday afternoon in Athy Golf Club.

We are now through to the quarter finals and await the result of Mullingar v Mt Wolseley. We should know by the end of next week which of them we play and the venue.

Castlecomer, like Abbeyleix and Portarlington, fielded a strong team but Tulfarris ladies were stronger!

Special thanks go to team members (and caddies) LC Miriam (Catherine Field), Audrey Finnegan (Maureen Doran), Rebecca Edwards (Carol Edwards), Carmel Curran (Mary Mahon) and Imelda Masterson (Stephen). Thanks also to supporters John Horan and Rosaleen Prescott. My thanks also to lady members who sent me good wishes to pass onto team.

Athy Golf Club were very pleasant to deal with and we had a lovely meal afterwards.

GUI Course Rating Results

Following the changes to our course over the past year or two and in preparation for the new Slope based handicap system, the GUI have this month re-rated our Mens Course: Click here for full detals.

In summary: No change to SSS Standard Scratch

SSS Slope

Blue Tees 75 129

White Tees 73 125

Green Tees 72 122

What is Slope ? See attached link

The quick (and overly simplistic) answer is that it's a single number indicating the difficulty of a golf course to a "bogey golfer". The figure is used when calculating handicaps. The Course Slope value is a two- or three-digit integer, always between 55 and 155, with 113 being the average or "standard" value.
